Welcome to Sydney! We are so glad you found us. We are a friendly church in the heart of the City of Sydney, helping people to know and love Jesus.
We are known for our faithful and thoughtful Bible teaching, and we have a large and welcoming community of undergrads, TAFE students and postgrads.
We love being located midway between the University of Sydney and the University of Technology, Sydney, and opposite the University of Notre Dame. Ultimo TAFE is just around the corner. For almost 100 years we have supported university ministry – the campus ministry teams of the Sydney University Evangelical Union, Credo (Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students) and Power to Change all use Barneys as a kind of ‘home base’.
Undergrads and Apprentices
We love welcoming students who are new to Sydney for uni and TAFE. Most of our English-speaking students gather on Sundays at the 5:30pm service. Apart from Sundays, the hub of our student community midweek is the Barneys Tertiary Fellowship, where we make deep friendships over dinner and read the Bible together in small groups.
Barneys is a training and sending church. Our mission is make and form disciples of Jesus who glorify and enjoy God in all of life, for all of life. We aim to train thousands of young women and men in Godly living, humble service and credible gospel witness, and then send them out again.
Our broader life includes teams who care for the vulnerable (whether residents of local social housing, or uni students having a big night out) or teach English to international students, a regular Thursday morning beach trip (before uni or work), the St Barnabas Flames football club, a group who go indoor rockclimbing together, boardgame nights and more.

Postgrads
Located between two of Australia’s largest research universities, our community includes many postgraduates, PhD students, researchers and academics, including Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
We emphasise Bible teaching that is Christ-centred and richly theological, and which engages the big issues with both conviction and generosity. Hundreds of our members meet throughout the week in small communities where they read and reflect on the Bible, pray and care for each other, and build deep friendships in a new home. We also run various short courses and reading groups throughout the year.

We love welcoming international students from all over the world. Our community includes both undergraduate and postgraduate students from nearby universities, especially the University of Sydney and UTS. At Barneys, you’ll meet people who understand what it’s like to study and live far from home, and who are excited to walk with you during your time here.
Barneys partners closely with campus groups like the Sydney University Evangelical Union, Credo and Power to Change to care for and support international students. Our hope is that you’ll find a place where you can grow in your faith, make friends and feel at home in Christ.
Most of our international students, workers and graduates gather at the 5:30pm Sunday service. The service is in English, with Mandarin interpretation and translated songs and liturgy available. Afterward, we share dinner together, a time to connect with others.
Before the service, our 3:30pm Sunday Bible studies meet at Barneys. These groups are especially for international students, with different language options to help you explore God’s Word in a way that feels clear and comfortable.
We also run English Corner, where local Christians help internationals practise English. This takes place on Fridays at 1pm and Sundays at 4:30pm, and is a way to meet people and improve your language skills.

St Barnabas Student Residences
St Barnabas Student Residences consist of two welcoming communities located in Glebe, associated with St Barnabas Anglican Church, Broadway. Our vision is to support undergraduate tertiary students who are new to Sydney by helping them form lasting friendships, grow in faith and joy, and become equipped to serve God’s kingdom with purpose and confidence.
