Mel’s story

I first came to Barneys when I was about 10 years old, after being invited along to Sunday school by a friend. I don’t remember much, but I know I felt welcomed and accepted as I continued to go along each week, making friends and getting to know God. As I moved into high school I attended youth group, which was full of fun, meaningless games and meaningful studies. Through the community of supporting leaders and friends, I gave my life to Christ as I realised how much God truly loves me and how much I love Him.

I gave my life to Christ as I realised how much God truly loves me and how much I love Him.

I am so thankful for Barneys and all the love and support I have, and continue to receive throughout the various ministries, in particular our BAD midweek Bible study. For the past four years I have been able to spend my Wednesday afternoons learning from God’s word with a group that has grown very close. Looking back I see how God has shaped me through significant leaders and friends and love being a child of God. I also have found a passion for kids’ ministry, and teach Barniccles on Sunday mornings, telling adorable pre-school kids about God and his mighty work.

One of the highlights of my walk with God and time at Barneys so far, was last year in 2009 when I was baptised, because I was able to publically declare my faith and trust in Jesus. It was a fantastic night where I felt so encouraging and uplifted by the Barneys community. I was able to look back and see God working wonderfully in my life, and am still continually amazed by his grace and love.
