Work (with Kara Martin)

How do we manage success in the workplace? How do we manage failure?

How do we work in male-dominated professions?

How do we evangelise in the workplace?

How do we manage expectations as mothers, sisters, friends, wives, daughters, and workers?

On Monday 4 September the Women’s Discipleship Team will host the first evening in our upcoming discipleship event: The September Series. The event will be an exploration of ‘work’ – both what it means to be Christian women who work, and how we go about living as Christian women in the workplace.

We are very excited to have Kara Martin join us for this event. Kara is Project Leader with Seed, lecturer at Mary Andrews College, and was formerly Mentor Educator with the Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship of Australia (Victoria), MBA Curriculum Developer with Excelsia College, and Associate Dean of the Marketplace Institute at Ridley College in Melbourne. Her book Workship: How to use your work to worship God was shortlisted for 2017 Australian Christian Book of the Year.

As well as hearing from Kara, there will be an opportunity to hear from a panel of women in the Barneys community who are each employed in different professional contexts.

If you are woman who isn’t currently working in a professional context, or if you are a university student preparing for work, please do still join us. This evening will have something for you too.

We know we should do it. We know it’s good for us. So why does it feel like a chore? Why does it feel like an obligation? Why is it so hard to do?

The second evening in The September Series is dedicated to devotions: to the practice of regular, personal time spent in the Word of God.

If you are struggling to spend time in the Bible, if you are feeling un-challenged in this area, or if you would like to try something new – this night is for you.

Many of us, while regularly encouraged to read our Bibles, don’t often hear how other people do it. And so during this event, we will hear how other women at Barneys practice this spiritual discipline, and have time to both reflect and plan for how we will prioritise the Word of God in our lives.
