Help Us Raise The Roof
The Barneys community has the once-in-a-lifetime privilege to rebuild a church from flat land right in the middle of a modern city. This is quite an act of faith for our church. We stand on 150 years of mission and ministry as we develop a facility for the future. Barneys has been in the process of organising the design of a new church, multipurpose hall and forecourt with access to Broadway on the original site where Barneys has stood since 1859.
We farewelled the old church on February 4th, 2010 with a demolition service 151 years to the day after the first service was held in that building. Bishop Rob Forsyth swung the first hammer blow on February 19th and then handed over to the professionals from the Delta Group to complete the demolition. We discovered a time capsule under the old hall and this has really made us think about what messages or objects we would like to leave for future generations when we open the New St Barnabas at the end of 2011.
The most common command in the Bible is, "Do not be afraid". So we are not fearful as we face this enormous challenge. We thank all our friends who have supported us these past twelve months as we have continued to worship and minister in temporary premises. We praise God that we have seen continued growth: over 90 new members this year and 20 adult baptisms in the last six months. We are confident that Barneys is a place where God is at work.
So we are bold enough to request your contribution towards our rebuilding. This wonderful facility will house and enable new and existing ministries in our three universities, a bustling local community and more than 50,000 overseas students who live within a few kilometres of Broadway.
