The building is almost finished!

We are so grateful to all the people who have contributed to the $4,236,653.00 that has been raised to date.  Now we are making our “Last Ask” to help us fill the $1.8 million dollar gap to reach our target of $6 million.

Our new building is only weeks off completion, and we plan to open our doors once again to the community as soon as it is ready. It will offer much needed public open space as well as being a beautiful place of worship.  It has also been designed as a hub for the local and wider community, with modern, accessible multi-purpose facilities.

Just about all the scaffolding is down, the crane has gone, the heritage components are in place and the builders are frantically making up lost time from the wettest summer in forty years. If you are driving down Broadway, make sure you sneak a look.

Both building and funding this project have been a herculean effort for the people of Barneys.  The scale of the development and the fund-raising associated with it are well beyond anything that a parish church has undertaken in Sydney for over half a century.  We are looking forward to shifting our attention to the community, universities and workers who surround this wonderful new facility.

So we are seeking your generous support in our “Last Ask Appeal”. We want to have everything ready to welcome residents, workers and congregation members back to our new building. And we want to leave the Barneys operating budget with as little debt as possible so that we can focus on people, not buildings. I hope you can help.

From Our Builder

We are finally watertight! It has taken longer than expected due to one of the wettest summers in years. Now that we are water tight it allows all the internal finishing trades to commence their site measured works and procure and install. All external scaffolds have been removed and people can now see the cross and the unique roof structure from the street.
The building is really starting to take shape and come together internally with all the curved walls noticeable as they have been set and painted. All high level works are complete and the critical areas are now the wall and floor finishes. Joinery trades are beginning to install there finished products and the concrete topping to the worship space floor is underway. Commissioning of services is in the early stages and still has a number of weeks to go.
Remnant feature stones are almost complete to the heritage wall with the last remaining stones to be lifted into place. Paving to the Broadway entrance ramp has begun with paving to the external courtyard due to start in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed we get some more sunshine as we still have to complete external works to footpath along Mountain Street and also at Broadway.
It will be a busy few months ahead coordinating and managing each finishing trade so that they can complete their works and allow final handover.
