Daniel's Story

I was born in Singleton, 1986. Growing up I was largely anti-Christian, as I wasn't familiar with the bible or its teachings. Christianity seemed hypocritical and outdated.

Although I noticed a strong Christian presence at University during my first year, I tried to avoid it. In the second semester my attitude toward Christianity began to change when I attended some Christian talks. That week I was asked to attend Connect, and I started to attend Connect regularly, although I still wasn't a Christian. I felt Connect was a great way to meet new people and I enjoyed the atmosphere.

In second year I still went to Connect regularly and I started to read parts of the Bible, although I hadn't been to a Barneys service. In second semester, I was persuaded to attend church. The experience was very new and strange. I ended up attending church about 5 times during the semester.

During January 2007, I was at Sydney for a Physics Summer Scholarship for six weeks. I had a lot of free time to myself, so I decided to read the Bible and then decide whether or not to become a Christian.

After a couple of weeks, when I was thinking about whether to become a Christian, I began to pray. I believed that Jesus Christ is Lord, so that night I accepted Jesus as Lord and became a Christian.

I know how powerful and encouraging a loving Christian community can be.

I now love, praise and honour Jesus Christ, and now understand his sacrifice, but I also know how great it is to be a part of a Christian community at Barneys. Before this I was relatively isolated, but now I know how powerful and encouraging a loving Christian community can be.

I have also begun to think and act differently. I now have Jesus' teaching to guide me through life.
